Is it safe to heat your tent with a small candle?

I know fire can be a risk, but if you don't burn down your tent -- is a candle safe to use as a heat source? I know propane & gas heaters can kill you with CO2 poisoning. I'm going to be climbing Pike's Peak this winter, and want to use something simple to keep my small backpackers tent warm at night in -20 temps.
