he obviously had feelings for you before, and he made it very obvious about his feelings for you if he stopped liking that other lady, and also if he conversed with you every day that's an obvious sign. you can't help dating someone else if you didn't have feelings for him in return, and if he didn't bother going after you whilst you were dating this other man then that is his own fault. maybe you guys talk less now because you took two way different roads, and if he dated another lady then he probly is over you and just wants nothing to do with you any longer, sorry if that's the case. also if he is avoiding you now, maybe it's because he isn't over you and is trying to be. maybe just give it a little more time, and then softly bring on conversation. don't startle him with questions about why everything went wrong before, that will only scare him away (: good luck!
