Question about 14 month old and cold?

she was congested then i starting using the humidifier and her nose became more runny and now she is coughing. I would like to know what do you mom used and were you informed by the pediatrician to use that. My friend says to use eucalyptus oil in the humidifier or put some vicks on her back. My mom says the same thing, but i have heard that it is not good to use vicks on small children. Whe you read the vicks label it also says that. what are your suggestion because at night she coughs a lot and is more congested.
